Andrew McGregor

Andrew, Principal of Dowling McGregor, is a highly respected legal practitioner who has practised his whole career in the Victorian Children’s Court jurisdiction. As a long-serving ‘selfless fighter’ who directly represents children, Andrew is widely recognised as the ‘go-to man’ for child representation in Victoria.

Andrew commenced practice in the Children’s Court jurisdiction at Victoria Legal Aid and went on to manage the Children’s Law Section. Andrew is the former Chair of the Children and Youth Issues Committee at the Law Institute of Victoria (LIV), a member of the LIV’s Children’s Law Specialisation Committee, and has acted as a representative from the LIV in advocating for the continued direct representation and protection of children in each stage of review of the Children’s Court of Victoria. Andrew was nominated for the National Children’s and Youth Law Centre Children’s Law Awards in 2014.

With over 27 years in practice, Andrew is a life-long advocate for children and young people. Over Andrew’s career, he has played an instrumental role in training lawyers to attain the highest possible standards of legal representation and advocacy on behalf of children and young people. Andrew is viewed as a role model for many young lawyers. Andrew’s roles with the LIV have also seen him advocate in each review phase for the Children’s Court to continue to play a pivotal role in both child protection and the direct representation of children. Andrew has been proactive in expressing these views in Victoria.
